urkana is on news again this time around
not for good reason at all but because of
how most of the residents are
feeding on dogs, wild fruits and even others sleeping hungry for couple of days
This not the first time Turkana County is making headlines about how they
have been hit by hunger.
Its such a pity at this century and in our beautiful Country on how people are feeding on Dogs. It’s a story that
was told by one of the local media station here in Kenya .
The story left many people dumbfounded .
Aparo, 73 years
old granny explained how she was on her
way to Kakuma to get some food when she spotted a dog which had made a shelter
and given birth to five puppies.
She then decided to take two home to feed her
family. Aparo, who lives with five of her grandchildren, in the Turkana West
IDP camp in Kakuma Division, has been taking care of them since their parents
died in 2010. She last received relief food in September 2013, with no other
sources
Turkana County depend on nomadic pastoralism and fishing as a major source of their livelihoods. Fishing is practiced in the waters of Lake Turkana with Tilapia and Nile perch being among some of the fish species caught in the Lake.
The county’s tourist attractions includes Lake Turkana, Sibiloi National Park and two islands on Lake Turkana.
In July 2011, "Kenyans for Kenyans initiative was
started by corporate leaders and the Red Cross in response to media reports of famine and
deaths from starvation in Turkana.
This
is an initiative that raised over Ksh.100 Million that were donated by good Samaritan from all over the country.
Recently
the Kenya Red Cross give out a pay bill where Kenyans can contribute their
money which will be used to feed people of Turkana County.
We
all hope that Kenyan spirit will be revealed
as always as we assist our brothers and sisters in Turkana County.
