BABIES FOR SALE AT KSH 200,000

POLICE in Narok town yesterday arrested a 34 year old woman after she was alleged to have been found trying to sell her two children.

The woman from Majengo area is said to have tried selling her 4 year-old daughter and 8 year-old son for Sh200,000

Confirming the incident, Narok North OCPD Paul Letting said police arrested the woman, Zainab Akumu, after a good Samaritan tipped them of the woman's intention.

Letting said after getting the report his officers posed as interested clients.
"They bargained for a while before the woman agreed to sell each of the children at Sh200, 000 and then arrested her," said Letting.

He added that the woman claimed that she has eight children and is widowed and with no employment and cannot provide for the family.

The police boss they are holding the suspect as they investigate to find out if there are others who could be involved in the child trafficking.

The woman said that she hoped to use the amount to initiate a business that will enable her provide for the other members of the family.
