Coca- Cola's Santa Claus dies at 86

Santa Claus used in a lot of Coca-Cola adverts? Well, he has died. His name was John Moore and he was the famous "Father Christmas" who inspired Coca Cola’s character and appeared in many ads for the brand. 

He died recently at the age of 86 and is being buried today in Burgess Hill, Sussex,UK.
When he was not shooting for Coca-Cola, he spent the rest of the year working as a taxi driver and barman. RIP, Mr Moore.

Shame as 10 traffic cops arrested in Nakuru taking bribes

Ten traffic police officers were have arrested in one of the biggest sting operations against law enforcers by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The officers were arrested at three police checks in Nakuru.
The EACC officials set up hidden cameras that captured the errant police officers in the act at Kiti, Eveready and Shiners check points.

A motorist who was ambushed as he bribed the officers was also arrested.
EACC spokesperson Yasin Amaro indicated the officers would be charged with taking bribes and said it should serve as a lesson to other officers who are engaging in such vices.

Girl Becames multimillionaire on her 19th birthday

19 year old Deisi Ocampo from Chicago is now a multimillionaire after accepting and scratching two lottery tickets her dad gave her as birthday present on October 6th.
Deisi told ABC News exactly what happened

"I rarely play the lottery. My dad buys tickets once in a while and thought it would fun to get me two tickets for my birthday. The following day, I didn’t think much of it when I scratched off the first set of numbers. But when I finished scratching the second ticket, I began to shake and sweat out of nervousness. I just couldn’t believe it was real.”

 The birthday girl had won $4 million dollars. 

Deise said she immediately called her father who was also stunned.

“He couldn’t believe it. He thought I was teasing him. When I told him I had won, he asked if it was $500, and I said, ‘No $4 million!’”

On how she plans to spend the money

"I will share with my dad so he can buy a new home for my mom, dad and sister,” she said. “I plan to use a portion to pay for college since I want to become a nurse and take care of babies.”

When asked if this was the best birthday present she’s ever received, Deisi replied, “Definitely!”

Veteran Politician Matiba marks 72nd birthday,

Veteran political activist Kenneth Matiba on Thursday celebrated his 72nd birthday at his Diani home in Mombasa.
 
Peter Kenneth visited Matiba on the day, terming the time spent with him a reminder of the effects of Kenya’s troublesome political past.

“Today, I had the honour of spending some time with Hon. and Mrs. Kenneth. S.N. Matiba in Diani, Mombasa. A stark reminder of our dark political past and what it did to one of Kenya’s most illustrious sons,” Kenneth posted on his Facebook page.

Charles Njonjo and William Ole Ntimama were also present.

BURKINA FASO PROTESTERS BURN PARLIAMENT, RANSACK STATE TV

Thousands of protesters stormed Burkina Faso’s parliament and ransacked state television on Thursday, forcing it off the air ahead of a planned vote on a motion to allow the veteran president to extend his 27-year rule.
 

Black smoke swirled in the air around parliament after demonstrators lit fires inside the building before looting computers and televisions screens and wheeling away police motobikes, a Reuters reporter said.

The crowd headed towards the presidency as a government helicopter flew overhead, shooting teargas at protesters.

Lawmakers had been due to vote on Thursday on a government plan to change the constitution to allow President Blaise Compaore – who took power in a coup in 1987 – to stand for re-election again next year, when he was due to stand down.

Malala donates $50,000 to reconstruction of schools in Gaza

Nobel Prize winner and Pakistani education campaigner, Malala Yousafzai, has donated $50,000 towards the reconstruction of schools in war-torn Gaza in Palestine.  

Many public buildings and schools in the Gaza Strip were destroyed by Israeli warplanes and tanks during Gaza's recent conflict with Israel.

Malala made the donation yesterday  Wednesday October 29th after receiving the World Children's Prize for the rights of the child in Marienfred, Sweden.malala-donates-50000-to-reconstruction-of-schools-in-gaza/ Speaking at the event, Malala said the money will be channeled through the United Nations relief agency UNRWA to help rebuild 65 schools in the Palestinian territory.

Husband caught on camera handing over cash to hitman he hired to kill his bride

  In 2010, newlywed British national Shrien Dewani and his 28 year old wife Anni Dewani were in South Africa for their honeymoon and while riding in a taxi in Cape Town on Nov. 13th, Anni was shot dead by two men who hijacked the taxi. 

The men involved in the murder were later caught and they shockingly confessed that the new husband had hired them Husband caught on camera handing over cash to hitman he hired to kill his bride to attack them in the car and kill his wife.

The wealthy businessman who had since left South Africa back to the UK, was extradited back to South Africa to face murder charges. Of course Shrien denied having a hand in his wife's death but today a footage of him handing money to the hitman he allegedly hired to kill his bride, taxi driver,  Zola Tongo, who is serving 18 years in prison for his role, was played at his murder trial.

Shrien Dewani is suspected to have killed his wife because he is gay and didn't want to be stuck with a wife. One of his gay lovers, Leopold Leisser, already gave testimony in court.

Zambia gets a White President...

Guy Scott (pictured above with his wife and the Obamas) was sworn in today as the interim president of Zambia following the death of Zambian president Michael Sata yesterday Oct. 28th. 
 
This makes Mr Scott, who is of Scottish descent but born in Zambia, the first white president in Africa since apartheid.
Guy Scott, 70, became vice-president of Zambia in 2011 and will serve as interim-president pending when the country holds fresh elections for a new president within 90 days. The Zambian constitution makes it impossible for Scott to be president because his parents were not born in Zambia.

BARINGO COUNTY SPEAKER ARRESTED AT JKIA OVER ALLEGED INCITEMENT

Baringo County Speaker Kassait Kamket was Tuesday night arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while headed for Qatar.oasisofhopeblog.com/baringo-county-

He was being sought by police over clashes in the area that left five police officers dead. Police said he will be taken to Baringo for grilling. 

Police had been monitoring his movements before they arrested him at about 1 am. Kamket confirmed his arrest on his Facebook page. 

“This is to let all friends, comrades, compatriots and gallant sons and daughters of Tiaty and Baringo County that the forces of evil have conspired to successfully have me arrested tonight at Jomo Kenyatta Airport. I am now detained here.”
