Lawyer Wants Ruto Sworn In As President

A Nairobi based lawyer has moved to court to get an order compelling Chief Justice Willy Mutunga to swear in William Ruto as President.

Kenya's Deputy President William Ruto takes the oath of office during the official swearing-in ceremony at Kasarani Stadium in the capital Nairobi, April 9, 2013. In the article, “The office of the president shall become vacant if the holder of the office resigns, in writing, addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly.”

Mr Mategei filed the application at the High Court in Nairobi.

Lawyer Kiprono Mategei argues that Uhuru Kenyatta’s surrender of power to William Ruto is construed as resignation under Article 146 (1) (b).
