Transport along Thika Highway has
been paralysed for the second day as Githurai 45 residents hold protests
demanding the release of a police officer accused of murder.
The locals, joined by matatu operators,
blocked the road at Githurai underpass to demand that Constable Titus Musila,
popularly known in Githurai as Katitu, be released. Police arrived moments
later and dispersed the group prompting running battles.
The protestors Tuesday blocked the
road from 8am to 4pm demanding the release of the officer. Police had to lob
tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd that pelted vehicles with stones and
burned tyres. They also used water cannons in the exercise
