Find out why Robin van Persie was called ''stupid'' Louis van Gaal despite late equaliser

Robin van Persie scored a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser – only to be branded “stupid” by boss Louis van Gaal.

Van Persie rescued a point for Manchester United and stopped Chelsea going eight points clear of champions and main title rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League with his added-time leveller.

But the United striker received a ticking off from manager Van Gaal for throwing his shirt into the air in celebration – and earning a yellow card in the process.

Despite his delight at Van Persie’s goal, the Old Trafford boss said: “He did a stupid reaction after the goal.

“You can be excited, but you don’t have to pull your shirt off, because then you have a yellow card. It’s not so smart.”
