Sex attacker wept and apologised to terrified rape victim before carrying on with the act

A sex attacker wept and apologised to a young woman he was raping - before carrying on with his brutal assault. 

Richard Thomas, 22, befriended the 20-year-old in Bolton town centre and the pair spent the day together. 

In the early hours of the following morning, they left a nearby address to get a taxi, and he led her through a local park. Once inside he pushed her to the ground and raped her. 

A court heard how he paused for a short time during the attack to apologise and cry before continuing with his horrific assault.

 He was arrested later in the day on June 8 last year and charged with the attack in February. However, he failed to turn up to a court hearing while on bail in May 2014 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
