GOOGLE CELEBRATE ITS 16TH BIRTHDAY

Web giant Google has celebrated its 16th birthday with a special doodle.

The animated shows the letters of the search engine's famous name having a party.

The 'G' has a party hat on, and is shown measuring the heights of one of the letter 'Os' and the 'L' - symbolising its growth since it was founded.

Google has been so successful as an internet search engine its name is used as standard to mean 'search'.

The company founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1997 also owns YouTube, although the rise of Facebook has begun to challenge its dominance.

Google has grown into one of the world's biggest and most powerful firms.

Its revenue for the third quarter of 2013 was $14.89 billion.

The very first Goodle Doodle appeared in 1998 and featured a reference to the Burning Man festival that Google founders Larry and Sergey were attending.

They are now a regular feature on the search engine's homepage and illustrate a range of special events, occasions and anniversaries.
Happy Birthday google
