Pomp, dance and tears of joy marked
Kenya’s second President Daniel Moi’s most decorated birthday, that was
celebrated yesterday at the Kabarak University grounds.
To mark Moi’s ninth
decade of life and service to Kenyans, there were those who chose the easy way
- sitting down and letting their minds travel down memory lane and letting
tears of joy roll down their cheeks.
Others, burning with the urge to tell
their story, chose to compose beautiful songs of praise and love. Songs that
perhaps bombarded the ageless mind of the retired President, evidenced by his
clapping and nodding to the beats.
Regional leaders, including Ugandan
President Yoweri Museveni, South Sudan’s Silva Kiir and former presidents
Kenneth Kaunda (Zambia) and Benjamin Mkapa (Tanzania) joined in the
celebrations as they sent goodwill messages to Moi, whose presidency ran for 24
years.
